In response to Trump’s remarks, Khan expressed his disapproval, stating that it was needlessly offensive for the leader of a democratic nation to speak about a civilization in such derogatory terms. He emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue and understanding different cultures, highlighting Iran’s historical significance and the need for a sustainable, peaceful resolution.
Khan also raised concerns about joint US/Israeli military actions in the region, questioning the legality of attacks on civilian infrastructure. He stressed the necessity of supporting allies in the Middle East while advocating for permanent ceasefires in Lebanon and Iran to prevent further loss of innocent lives. Drawing parallels to past criticisms of Russia’s actions in Ukraine, Khan urged for accountability in condemning similar actions by the US and Israel in Iran.
The situation escalated as Keir Starmer and other global leaders demanded an end to Israel’s assault on Lebanon, calling for a lasting peace following the US-Iran ceasefire agreement. Despite the temporary truce, Israel continued its offensive against Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah, an Iranian-supported militant group.
