“Tragically Hip and More Inducted into Hall of Fame”

The Tragically Hip, a Kingston alt-rock band, along with three other musical acts, were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame during a prestigious event at Toronto’s Massey Hall. The band paid tribute to their late member, Gord Downie, who passed away in 2017 from a rare form of brain cancer. Guitarist Rob Baker shared a message from Downie, expressing gratitude for the honor bestowed upon the band.

The 2026 inductees included Feist, the songwriting duo of Loverboy (Mike Reno and Paul Dean), and French-Canadian artist Roch Voisine. The gala featured diverse performances honoring the inductees, ranging from arena rock to indie pop to love ballads, with artists like Finneas, Our Lady Peace, and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy taking the stage.

During the ceremony, a tribute to the Tragically Hip concluded with a symbolic purple feathered hat on stage, reminiscent of Downie’s distinctive style. Allison Russell, one of the performers, paid homage to Downie before singing one of the band’s songs. The evening also saw Feist being inducted by Finneas, with heartfelt performances and speeches celebrating her influence on the music industry.

Loverboy received a special tribute, with their hit songs energizing the audience. The event highlighted Canadian pride, emphasizing the nation’s musical heritage. The night ended on a poignant note with Roch Voisine’s emotional performance of his ballad alongside another artist.

The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction showcased a blend of musical talents, paying homage to iconic Canadian artists and their contributions to the music industry.
