Easter baking holds a special place in my heart, especially when it involves using Cadbury Mini Eggs. These colorful treats are a must-have ingredient in my holiday desserts, whether I’m making Easter nests or a delicious cheesecake.
Given the recent surge in grocery prices, I was curious to know the exact number of eggs in each packet. Opting for the commonly found 74g bag at Tesco, which usually costs £2, I embarked on a closer inspection.
Luckily, during my shopping trip, I found the eggs on Clubcard Price at £1.45 per bag. However, I still considered this price to be relatively high for what you get in return.
To delve deeper into this matter, I purchased six bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs and meticulously counted the contents of each. Surprisingly, despite all bags being the same weight, the number of eggs varied, as revealed by the Express.
The first bag contained 22 eggs, translating to around 9p per egg at full price, which seemed pricey given their small size. Subsequent bags held either 23 eggs or a slightly lower count due to one egg being damaged.
Despite the consistency in the number of eggs in the remaining bags, I found the £2 price tag still unjustified. The rising chocolate prices in recent months, attributed to poor harvests and manufacturers’ efforts to maintain profits, have made such indulgences increasingly expensive.
Fortunately, budget-friendly alternatives like those offered by Aldi and Lidl are available to counter the high cost of branded chocolates. M&S’s Speckled Eggs, priced at £2.75 for a 150g bag, have gained positive reviews, particularly on Ocado.
Although Cadbury’s Mini Eggs are a staple in many kitchens, the current pricing scenario might steer me towards exploring other options in the near future.
