A wealthy hunter, Ernie Dosio, met a tragic end when he was fatally trampled by a group of five enraged elephants during a hunting expedition for antelope in central Africa. Dosio, a vineyard owner known for his extensive collection of animal trophies, was pursuing a yellow backed duiker in Gabon when the elephants unexpectedly attacked him.
Dosio, aged 75, was well-known for showcasing a variety of exotic animal heads in his home in Lodi, California, including species like elephants, rhinos, bears, and lions. Despite being an experienced hunter with licenses for specific hunts, Dosio was overpowered by the elephants while armed with only a shotgun during the encounter.
The massive elephants, the largest land animals globally, swiftly turned on Dosio and his professional hunter in the dense forest. Dosio tragically lost his life in the incident, with his body currently undergoing repatriation to the United States. He leaves behind a partner, Betty, and two children.
Dosio, who owned Pacific AgriLands Inc, a vineyard in Modesto, was deeply involved in the wine industry in California. His company, managed by his son Jeff, played a significant role in wine production in the region. Dosio’s passion for hunting was well-recognized, and he was actively engaged in charitable endeavors, supporting causes such as military veterans and disaster relief.
