Melania Trump expressed her genuine views on King Charles and Queen Camilla’s official visit with a succinct three-word remark. The royal couple’s arrival in Washington DC on Monday marked the commencement of their three-day tour in the United States.
Welcomed by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the iconic South Portico of the White House, the meeting proceeded smoothly despite concerns following a recent security incident in the area.
Following a legal proceeding against Cole Allen for allegedly attempting to harm the president, King Charles reportedly felt relieved that no harm came to Trump. The Palace assured that the state visit would proceed as planned, with minor adjustments made to the schedule.
During their encounter outside the White House, Melania Trump and King Charles exchanged pleasantries, with Melania expressing her joy about the visit in a brief statement. Subsequently, the two couples posed for photographs before heading inside for a tea session.
Although Trump’s gesture of tapping the King on the shoulder breached royal protocol, it was interpreted by some as a friendly and possibly political gesture. Observers noted that despite the breach, King Charles appeared unperturbed, showcasing a relaxed attitude towards such formalities.
Later today, King Charles is scheduled to address the US Congress, following in the footsteps of his mother, who delivered a speech there over three decades ago. The royal itinerary includes a dinner where both the King and President Trump will give speeches, as well as a visit to the 9/11 memorial on Wednesday.
The royal visit will conclude on Thursday with a formal farewell to the Trumps before the King and Queen depart for Bermuda, where King Charles also serves as the head of state.
