Prince Albert authorities reported the discovery of human remains on Thursday while conducting a search for a missing teenager who disappeared in June. The city’s public works and fire departments, along with Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, were involved in the search for 14-year-old Peyton Flett when the body was located in the vicinity of the 300 block of 40th Street East, as per a police statement.
An autopsy is set for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the individual and ascertain the cause and circumstances of death. Flett’s mother, Danica Moore, revealed that authorities informed her they suspect the body belongs to her daughter but declined to provide further details.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, as well as the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are collaborating on the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death, as stated by the police release. Previously, police, the Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents held a news conference urging the public to share any information that could aid in locating her.
Authorities noted that Flett was last seen around June 16 or 17 near Marquis Road and Central Avenue by Northern Lights Casino. Law enforcement officials are currently stationed at the location where the remains were discovered, probing a wooded area close to 40th Street. Street closures are anticipated to continue, and individuals are advised to steer clear of the area. Updates will be provided as new information emerges.
