“Tragic Airport Shooting Claims 11-Year-Old Boy’s Life”

An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in the restroom of a major international airport. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at Elko International Airport in Nevada after receiving reports of an active shooter. The young victim, Callan West Perez, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was urgently transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities discovered a deceased man near the airline ticket counter and the boy struggling for his life in close proximity on April 13. Despite medical personnel’s valiant efforts, Callan could not be saved.

Subsequently, the police identified the deceased man as Giovanni Perez, Callan’s father. Investigators disclosed that the father and son had been traveling together when their rented vehicle broke down in Winnemucca, Nevada. They were then towed to the airport to arrange for alternate transportation.

In a poignant statement, the grieving family described the boy as intelligent, humorous, and compassionate, emphasizing his generous nature and kind spirit. They launched a GoFundMe campaign to seek assistance during this unimaginable loss, highlighting Callan’s untimely passing at the hands of someone meant to protect him.

According to authorities, the father and son entered the restroom together, briefly exited, and then re-entered before the tragic incident occurred, with unclear motives behind the shooting. The father subsequently exited the restroom, fatally shooting himself near the ticket counter. Authorities called in bomb squad officers to inspect the vehicle associated with the pair as a precaution, but no explosives were found.

The airport faced significant disruptions following the tragedy, with flight operations suspended temporarily before resuming the next day. Callan’s family is now raising funds to cover funeral expenses and potentially pursue legal action, seeking justice for the system’s failure to protect him.

Reports indicated that Giovanni Perez was embroiled in a custody dispute with Callan’s maternal grandparents, attempting to prevent both them and his own family from having contact with the child, as per Elko police statements. Additionally, it was revealed that Perez was grappling with PTSD stemming from his military service.
