In a lengthy virtual meeting, the board decided to include Trump’s name on the facade, changing it to “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated By President Donald J. Trump.” Additionally, they planned to designate the plaza in front of the building in Trump’s honor and close a significant portion of the venue for a two-year period to facilitate extensive renovations.
These actions, as described by Representative Joyce Beatty, a Democratic member of the board, and her legal team, represent a significant challenge to the ruling of U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper. Cooper had previously declared that the addition of Trump’s name to the building was unlawful and ordered its removal, a decision upheld despite attempts by the Trump administration to reverse it. He also blocked the proposed two-year closure, criticizing the board’s decision as misguided and predetermined.
