“Gordie Howe Bridge Sees Massive Traffic Surge”

Statistics Canada reported that upon the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, a significant number of drivers crossed into Canada within the initial days. The bridge, which connects Windsor and Detroit, finally opened for traffic on July 27 following a series of delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the U.S. through the Gordie Howe bridge during the first five days of its operation. Additionally, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada via the same route during this period.

In comparison, other border points in the vicinity, namely the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents during the same timeframe. Furthermore, StatCan noted that 4,100 commercial trucks journeyed to Canada through the Gordie Howe bridge in the last five days of July.
