“French Team from St. Pierre Makes Debut at N.L. Summer Games”

At the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, teams from 10 regions are participating, including an international contingent from the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon situated off Newfoundland’s southern coast. Both boys and girls soccer teams from St. Pierre and Miquelon are competing at the Games held in Corner Brook.

The boys’ soccer team from St. Pierre started their tournament with a match against Team Eastern, which they lost 1-0. Soccer holds significant importance in St. Pierre, and players view the opportunity to compete in Newfoundland as a valuable experience to broaden their perspectives.

Fifteen-year-old Arthur Champdoizeau expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Going to Corner Brook for the N.L. Games is very beneficial for us and my team as we do not have such opportunities back home.” Antony Cronsteadt, a fourteen-year-old player, highlighted the limited options for soccer on the island, making the tournament a fresh and enjoyable experience for the team.

Team manager Guillaume Grasset emphasized the developmental significance of events like the N.L. Games in helping players grow, forge new friendships, and create lasting memories. He described the experience as a fantastic opportunity for the team.

The Games’ closing ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, providing a platform for players to share their experiences. Viewers can watch the players in action in the accompanying video.
