Promise David is set to make his debut in the Premier League as Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed the signing of the Canadian forward on a season-long loan deal from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes an obligation to purchase David for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, subject to specific undisclosed conditions.
Union Saint-Gilloise revealed that David will be transitioning to the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, marking a record transfer fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old striker arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and played a key role in securing the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. David extended his contract with Union through June 2029.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David contributed a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has accumulated four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team. Born to Nigerian parents in Brampton, Ontario, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching his allegiance to Canada in 2025 with FIFA’s approval following discussions with Canada coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton is the latest destination in David’s diverse career, having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, praised David’s qualities, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team. At 25 years old, David is entering his prime years, and Brighton looks forward to his growth and contributions in the upcoming season.
Brighton, a consistent Premier League participant for nine seasons, finished in eighth place in the league standings last season, demonstrating their competitive presence in the English top flight.
