“Local Businessman Donates $100k in Gear to Riverhead Fire Dept.”

Residents of Riverhead, Newfoundland, are elated following a generous contribution made by a local businessman who once resided in the area. Trent Comerford, the owner of T&K Services, expressed his joy at giving back to his childhood community by donating 20 new bunker suits worth $100,000 to the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department. The community came together on Thursday to celebrate this significant donation.

Former Chief Don Boyles mentioned that the department’s old suits had exceeded their expiration date and expressed immense gratitude for Comerford’s generosity. Firefighter Earle Kielly shared his excitement about the new suits, highlighting their lighter weight and enhanced comfort, which has left the team thrilled.

Sheila Lee, a Riverhead resident and Comerford’s former kindergarten teacher, praised his altruistic nature, describing him as someone always willing to help others. She expressed pride and gratitude for his donation, emphasizing the crucial role of the fire department in safeguarding the community. Lee emphasized the importance of updated protective gear for the firefighters, providing a sense of reassurance to the residents.

Comerford, inspired by the devastating wildfires in neighboring Conception Bay North last summer, emphasized the vital role of volunteer fire departments in strengthening communities. He urged other businesses in the province to support rural volunteer fire departments, emphasizing that even small contributions can make a significant difference in bolstering community resilience and pride.

The act of generosity from Comerford has not only provided essential equipment to the volunteer fire department but has also sparked a sense of unity and gratitude within the Riverhead community.
