Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced on Friday a global recall of over 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a seat belt issue. The recall pertains to Ram 1500 vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2026 that may have a second-row center or driver-side seat belt buckle anchor that was not properly secured to the vehicle’s body structure. This defect could compromise the effectiveness of the second-row seat belt system, increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Although there has been one reported injury associated with the recall, there have been no fatalities.
The recall affects 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 in other regions outside of North America. Stellantis will be reaching out to affected vehicle owners to arrange for inspections at authorized dealerships. During the inspection, dealers will assess the attachment of the second-row center and driver seat belt buckle anchor and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper installation on the vehicle’s body.
