An unusual cold front is set to bring snowfall to approximately 27 cities across the UK, including London, according to weather forecasts. The snow is expected to first hit the far north of Scotland on the evening of May 1 before moving south, reaching even the south coast of England.
The ECMWF weather model indicates that snowfall will commence around 6pm on May 1 in Scotland and some parts of northern England, with cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, and Newcastle likely to witness the snowy conditions before it progresses southward.
By 6am on May 2, snow is predicted to affect Northern Ireland, coastal regions in Wales, and the north-west of England. Flurries may even reach Brighton in the south around this time. Subsequently, Yorkshire, the Midlands, and the south-west of England could experience snow by midday on May 2, as well as the east coast of England.
London could encounter light snowfall by 6pm on May 2, while the heaviest snow is anticipated in Gloucestershire and southern parts of Scotland. The snow is projected to move eastward away from the UK by the evening, with only scattered flurries in East Anglia and the north of Scotland by midnight on May 2.
The snowfall is expected to span a 30-hour period, affecting up to 27 cities as per the ECMWF model. The Met Office has mentioned the possibility of “wintry” showers towards the end of April and the beginning of May, with varying weather conditions expected across different regions during this period.
