Passengers at a bustling airport have received a caution about potential exposure to a measles case.
Health authorities in New Jersey have alerted the public that an individual was diagnosed with the highly contagious measles after traveling internationally and passing through Newark Liberty International Airport.
It was reported by CBS News that individuals present at Terminal B of Newark Liberty between 5:30 am and 9:00 am on April 14 might have been exposed to the measles virus.
Furthermore, there was a potential exposure risk at the Hackensack University Medical Center pediatric emergency department on April 18.
Common symptoms of measles include high fever, coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, and a rash.
According to health officials, symptoms may manifest as late as May 11 for those who may have contracted the virus.
No additional cases have been reported so far.
Measles can spread through the air or via mucus and saliva from an infected person, with the virus lingering in the air for up to two hours after the infected individual has left the area.
The most effective way to guard against measles and prevent related complications is by receiving the MMR vaccine.
In a separate development, parents in the UK are being strongly advised to review their children’s vaccination records due to the ongoing measles outbreak in the country, with numerous cases already recorded this year and concerns escalating about a potential new wave.
Earlier this month, the Mirror reported that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a warning urging families to stay informed about symptoms and immunization due to the rising alarm over declining vaccination rates.
Recent data indicates that approximately 235 cases of measles have been confirmed in England in the initial weeks of 2026, with infections now documented in all regions.
