Two women have shared their terrifying ordeal after being viciously attacked by a disgraced celebrity dentist who was later shot dead by police while under the influence of drugs.
Chloe Paul and Christine Campeau were violently assaulted by Dr. Steven Lin, a successful Australian dentist known for his TED talks, ownership of two dental practices, and presence in health podcasts. The incident occurred at the St Neot Ave building in Potts Point, Australia, around 10:50 pm on a Tuesday morning when Lin, armed with a knife, entered their apartment complex.
Lin first attacked Ms. Campeau in the laundry room, stabbing her in the face before proceeding to Ms. Paul’s unit. There, he demanded money from the mother of three, physically assaulting and choking her.
Recalling the harrowing experience, Ms. Campeau expressed her fear of death as Lin relentlessly struck her, causing severe injuries. Ms. Paul, a trained boxer, managed to defend herself by targeting Lin’s vulnerable areas, ultimately escaping his hold. Police intervention became necessary when attempts to subdue Lin with a Taser failed, leading to an officer fatally shooting him as he threatened them.
Ms. Paul described a sense of relief upon hearing the gunshot that ended the life-threatening situation. Both women were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, including surgery for extensive facial injuries like a broken nose. In a joint Instagram post a week after the attack, they portrayed themselves as resilient individuals and declared Lin had chosen to confront the strongest women in the building.
Reflecting on the incident, Ms. Campeau emphasized that they were not victims of circumstance but rather deliberately targeted by Lin to prevent future harm to other women. Dr. Lin’s demise marked the culmination of a troubled period characterized by legal issues, drug addiction, and a deteriorating public image despite his initial success and social media following.
