“Woman sentenced to 13 years for 25-year captive ordeal”

A British woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for holding another woman captive in her home for 25 years. The victim, who was subjected to appalling conditions and brutal treatment, was described as resembling a survivor of a concentration camp. Amanda Wixon, a mother of ten, faced multiple charges including assault causing bodily harm, false imprisonment, and compelling labor. Despite the verdict, Wixon displayed no remorse and was informed by Judge Ian Lawrie KC that a prison sentence was inevitable.

During the trial in Gloucestershire Crown Court, neighbors testified against Wixon, highlighting the long history of abuse suffered by the victim. The captive woman, who was abducted at 16 and kept as a ‘family slave’ for decades, endured physical and psychological torment at the hands of Wixon. She was found toothless, with calluses on her feet from scrubbing floors while on her hands and knees. The victim managed to escape in 2021 after being held captive since 1997.

Neighbors expressed shock and dismay at the abuse, with one resident revealing repeated attempts to alert social services to no avail. The victim’s rescue in 2021 revealed the extent of her suffering, with bodycam footage showing her in a distressed state after years of mistreatment. The court also learned that Wixon diverted the victim’s benefits for personal gain while subjecting her to inhumane conditions.

Despite enduring years of abuse, the victim has shown resilience and progress since her rescue. She has moved in with a foster family, received dental care, and is rebuilding her life. However, the trauma of her ordeal continues, with nightmares and a compulsion for cleanliness ingrained by her captor. The court proceedings shed light on the victim’s harrowing experience and the impact of long-term abuse on her well-being.

Detective Sergeant Alex Pockett of Gloucestershire Police emphasized the severity of the case, stating that the victim had been subjected to horrendous treatment. The trial exposed the disturbing reality of the victim’s captivity and the lasting effects of the abuse she endured.
