Vernon Kay recently criticized a BBC colleague for what he termed as poor personal hygiene. However, when pressed to reveal the individual’s identity, the Radio 2 presenter declined, stating that they should not delve into that topic.
The incident occurred during an on-air conversation with Vernon’s Radio 2 co-worker, Scott Mills, who mentioned a malfunctioning emergency pull cord in a Broadcasting House restroom. Scott humorously referred to it as a peek behind the scenes at the corporation.
Prompted by Scott’s comments, Vernon took a swipe at the unnamed staff member, mentioning their unpleasant personal hygiene. Despite Scott’s efforts to extract more information, Vernon firmly refused to elaborate, stating they should avoid discussing it further.
When asked if he knew the person in question, Vernon replied that he hoped not, indicating a desire to distance himself from the matter.
In a light-hearted exchange, Scott mentioned purchasing a plug-in air freshener in response to Vernon’s hygiene concerns.
This incident is not the first time Vernon has raised cleanliness issues at Radio 2. In 2024, he expressed frustration over his studio being tampered with before his show, suggesting Radio 1 may have been involved. He humorously blamed Radio 1 Breakfast presenter Greg James, sparking playful banter between them on air.
Greg denied any involvement in the studio disturbance and suggested looking into the crew behind Radio 1’s New Music Show. The banter continued with Vernon likening the studio to a children’s playroom and Greg offering to investigate the situation further.
Meanwhile, Vernon shared a comical anecdote about injuring himself while jumping down two steps at the BBC canteen, highlighting the realization that he needs to be more cautious with such stunts at his age.
The banter between Vernon and his colleagues adds a touch of humor to the workplace dynamics at Radio 2.
