Recent weather forecasts have pinpointed the upcoming period when the UK will experience warmer temperatures reaching near 20C, following a cold spell in the past few weeks. Despite the onset of meteorological spring on March 1, temperatures in some regions had dropped to wintry lows of just 2C. The latest predictions suggest that Brits can expect a shift towards milder weather later this week, coinciding with the commencement of astronomical spring.
With the spring equinox approaching, favorable conditions will prevail, allowing people to enjoy increased daylight hours, comparable to those seen in the summer of 2025. Forecasts indicate that a warmer southerly wind will bring heat from the Mediterranean, leading to a significant rise in temperatures across England and Wales, surpassing the seasonal average by six to seven degrees.
Temperatures are anticipated to climb into the mid to high teens, with some areas in the Midlands, northwest England, and parts of Wales possibly experiencing temperatures nearing 20C, surpassing the recent highs recorded in Porthmadog, Wales, and London. The warm spell coincides with the spring equilux this week, marking the onset of the Spring Equinox on March 20.
As the equinox heralds the beginning of astronomical spring and the equilux signifies a balance of daylight and nighttime hours, this event will offer the longest daylight exposure Brits have seen in nearly six months. While daylight hours are expected to increase this Friday, forecasts indicate a slight downturn in temperatures by Thursday, although remaining above the usual seasonal average.
The Met Office’s extended forecast for March 21 to 30 projects that “high pressure” will maintain slightly above-average conditions for the remainder of the month. The forecast suggests settled weather with mostly dry conditions, albeit with a possibility of isolated showers in the southeast and potential rain in the extreme north or northwest regions. Temperature-wise, most areas will experience temperatures close to or slightly above average, with a cooler feel developing in parts of the south due to an easterly wind. Although uncertainties exist regarding the duration of settled conditions, spring sunshine is expected to prevail, offering a pleasant ambiance. However, indications point to a potential return of showers or rain towards the end of the period, primarily affecting southern areas.
