Britons are being advised to take precautionary measures in 25 regions with flood alerts following heavy rainfall. The United Kingdom has experienced significant rain showers, resulting in widespread flooding, particularly in the southern areas. Weather maps indicate the movement of rain clouds originating from the Atlantic and spreading across the country throughout the day.
The environmental agency has issued guidelines for individuals under flood warnings, with many of the affected locations situated near the southern coastline. To ensure safety, it is recommended to undertake four essential actions.
In the event of a flood warning or severe flood warning, individuals should first shut off their gas, electricity, and water supplies if it is safe to do so, avoiding contact with electrical switches when standing in water. Additionally, they are advised to relocate family members, vehicles, pets, and valuable items to secure areas such as upper floors or higher ground. Utilizing flood protection equipment like barriers or air brick covers is also suggested, along with following instructions from local authorities or emergency services, which may include evacuation orders.
According to Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill, a significant rainfall pattern is anticipated across the country. The weather system is expected to move from northern England through Wales towards the southwestern regions, with intermittent dry spells in the southeast. Despite some hill snow in the morning dissipating, further rainfall is projected for southern and eastern parts of England and Wales throughout the day.
