Two Arrested for Attempted Naval Base Breach

Two individuals have been apprehended for trying to access the naval facility where Britain’s four nuclear submarines are stationed, as per law enforcement officials. A 34-year-old man from Iran and a 31-year-old woman from Romania were taken into custody and charged after the incident at HM Naval Base Clyde, commonly referred to as Faslane, located near Helensburgh in Argyll and Bute, as confirmed by Police Scotland. The pair made an unsuccessful attempt to breach the base, according to the Royal Navy.

A representative from Police Scotland stated, “On Thursday, March 19, 2026, at approximately 5pm, we received reports of two individuals attempting to gain entry to HM Naval Base Clyde.” The 34-year-old man from Iran and the 31-year-old woman from Romania have been detained and charged in relation to the event. They are scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, March 23. Investigations are currently ongoing.

Specific details regarding the alleged actions, such as whether the duo tried to capture photographs or engage in other prohibited activities at the base, have not been disclosed. A spokesperson from the Royal Navy remarked, “Police Scotland have arrested two individuals who unsuccessfully tried to access HM Naval Base Clyde on Thursday, March 19. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we will refrain from providing further comments.”

Faslane serves as the operational headquarters for the UK’s four Trident-armed ballistic missile submarines, which are equipped with Trident nuclear missiles. Additionally, the base accommodates the Royal Navy’s seven Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarines, each capable of deploying Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles that possess the precision to hit targets hundreds of miles inland.
