In a recent statement, Donald Trump criticized Keir Starmer for his handling of the situation in Iran, accusing him of neglecting to assist in resolving the issue and expressing a lack of confidence in him. While acknowledging Starmer as a “nice man,” Trump refrained from directly stating whether he supported the idea of Starmer being replaced as Prime Minister.
Trump emphasized the historically strong relationship between the US and the UK, suggesting that it had been compromised since Starmer assumed office. When asked about Starmer’s potential replacement, Trump deferred to the British people, distancing himself from the decision.
Regarding the trade deal he negotiated with Starmer, Trump voiced disappointment over what he perceived as a lack of gratitude from the UK. He highlighted the successful deal made under his administration, contrasting it with the alleged failure to secure a similar agreement with the Biden administration.
During a discussion with Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Trump also expressed anticipation for an upcoming meeting with the King. Delving into his personal interactions with Starmer, Trump mentioned a disagreement over the deployment of aircraft carriers, indicating his disappointment with Starmer’s decisions.
Trump drew a comparison between Starmer and Winston Churchill, emphasizing his admiration for Churchill by pointing to a bust of the former Prime Minister in the Oval Office. He contrasted this with a claim that Obama had removed a similar bust, highlighting his own decision to display it prominently.
Notably, the controversy regarding the Churchill bust’s location during Obama’s presidency was also brought up, clarifying that it was on display elsewhere in the White House at that time.
