Tragic Outcome: Autistic Girl Found Dead in Texas Pond

A tragic incident unfolded as a seven-year-old girl with autism, named Skylar Hopson, was discovered deceased in a retention pond shortly after going missing in Pearland, Texas. The girl was reported missing by her mother on Wednesday morning after leaving her home. Local authorities launched an extensive search effort, including the deployment of search teams, K9 units, and drones, in an attempt to locate the nonverbal child, who was last seen wearing a tie-dye dress and carrying an iPad.

Following an intensive search coordinated with the Houston Police Department, Skylar’s iPad signaled a location near a local retention pond where her lifeless body was found later that afternoon. Pearland public information officer, Chad Rodgers, informed that a dive team recovered Skylar’s body over five hours after she was reported missing and emphasized the ongoing investigation to determine how she ended up at the pond and whether it was intentional.

Officer Rodgers mentioned the absence of clear indications that the pond was Skylar’s intended destination, emphasizing the need to review additional surveillance footage to reconstruct her path leading to the tragic discovery. Neighbors were urged to check their doorbell cameras for any footage of the girl, with one resident providing a video showing Skylar walking down the street with her iPad.

The circumstances of Skylar’s demise sadly echoed previous incidents, as drone teams swiftly focused on water bodies suspecting her proximity to them. Officer Rodgers underscored the community’s shared suspicion, noting the overwhelming online comments directing search efforts towards checking the water bodies as a priority.

Pearland Police Department expressed profound sorrow over the search outcome and extended gratitude to all involved in the search operation, including officers, local volunteers, and community members for their support and assistance during the distressing incident.
