Tragic Loss of Police Sergeant and Mother Rocks Community

A police sergeant and mother of two, Coleen Mellor, was discovered deceased at her residence by her ex-husband, causing immense sorrow among her loved ones. Coleen, a dedicated officer at West Yorkshire Police, passed away at the age of 40 on January 15. The incident occurred when her ex-husband, Craig Mellor, visited her home to retrieve their dog.

Although her death is not considered suspicious, the loss has left family and friends devastated. Described as a compassionate and wonderful mother by a close friend, Coleen leaves behind her two children, Noah, 16, and Charlie, 12. It is believed that Coleen took her own life, leaving her ex-husband, Craig, struggling to comprehend the tragic event.

Craig, who had been in close contact with Coleen despite their separation in 2025 after 12 years of marriage, expressed his perplexity over the incident. He mentioned their pleasant interactions leading up to her passing, including spending Christmas together with the children. The family has not yet arranged a funeral as Noah is currently focusing on his GCSE exams.

In support of the family during this challenging time, Coleen’s best friend, Elisia Sharpe, initiated a GoFundMe campaign. The fundraiser aims to provide financial assistance to Craig and the boys, allowing them the space to mourn and begin the healing process. Elisia highlighted Coleen’s dedication to her family and her role as a respected police sergeant, emphasizing the void her absence has left in the lives of her loved ones.

As the community rallies around Noah and Charlie, who cherished their mother deeply, they face an uncertain future without her presence. The boys’ academic pursuits and emotional well-being are at the forefront of concerns as they navigate this difficult period.

For those in need of support, the Samaritans offer a free helpline accessible 24/7 at 116 123, along with email and local branch resources for assistance.
