A study called the Retail Loyalty Index involved 2,200 participants reviewing loyalty schemes at 51 prominent UK retailers. Participants rated their satisfaction, likelihood to recommend, personalized rewards, and data security measures of each program. The ratings ranged from one to ten to determine the rankings.
Tesco Clubcard secured the top spot with an impressive score of 8.38. Shoppers praised it for being a “very generous program with abundant redemption options,” making shopping “more affordable and convenient.” Tesco also excelled in the “continue to shop” metric with a score of 9.16, indicating that customers integrate Clubcard into their regular shopping routines.
Members of Tesco Clubcard earn one point for every pound spent in-store or online, with 100 points translating to £1 for in-store purchases or £2 with partner brands like Disney+, restaurants, and travel destinations. Following closely behind, Leon Club clinched the second spot with an overall score of 8.20, receiving high ratings for satisfaction and recommendation.
Leon Club app users accumulate 100 points for every pound spent and receive a complimentary menu item upon reaching 3,000 points. Users find the scheme “user-friendly” with “attractive benefits.” Despite store restructuring, Leon’s loyalty program continues to thrive.
Consumer expert Harry Wallop highlighted the significance of loyalty programs that go beyond discounts to create genuine consumer enthusiasm and loyalty. The study underscores the importance of personalized rewards and emotional connections with customers in loyalty schemes, benefiting both retailers and consumers.
