“Teenage Boy Dies in Southwark Flat Fire Tragedy”

A tragic incident resulted in the death of a teenage boy in a flat fire in Southwark, south London. The fire occurred on Cooper’s Road and was attended by the London Fire Brigade (LFB), with four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters responding to the blaze on the first floor of a six-storey building near Old Kent Road Fire Station.

According to the LFB, one teenage boy managed to escape the flat before the arrival of the firefighters and was hospitalized, while another teenager lost his life at the scene. The fire was reported to the LFB just before 3 pm, and firefighters from various fire stations including Dockhead, Dowgate, Shadwell, and Whitechapel worked together to bring the blaze under control by around 4.30 pm.

An Old Kent Road Fire Station’s 64m turntable ladder appliance arrived at the scene within six minutes of the call, as confirmed by an LFB spokesperson. The spokesperson also mentioned that another appliance from Old Kent Road had been at a separate incident but returned to assist at the scene later on.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the LFB’s Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police Service.
