The pub quiz, a beloved British tradition, is facing a modern challenge with technology creeping into the game. A recent study by Vodafone revealed that 43% of participants admit to cheating during pub quizzes, despite 84% acknowledging that it is unethical.
Common cheating methods include surreptitiously searching on smartphones under the table (39%) and sneaking off to the restroom to check answers (22%). Some participants (34%) expressed a desire to use smartphones and artificial intelligence openly during quizzes, especially when encountering difficult questions, while 40% are open to incorporating technology into certain quiz rounds.
To cater to tech-savvy quiz enthusiasts, Vodafone and Google Pixel have teamed up with Roman Kemp to introduce Britain’s first AI-powered pub quiz, where using smartphones is encouraged rather than frowned upon.
Roman Kemp shared his enthusiasm for the innovative quiz format, stating that the combination of Vodafone’s network and Google Pixel technology has revolutionized the traditional pub quiz experience, making smartphones valuable allies in the game.
During the quiz, human teams were paired with Google Pixel 10 devices, utilizing the Gemini Live video feature as a game-enhancing tool, all powered by Vodafone’s efficient network. Participants raced against time, receiving crucial clues via voice commands through Gemini, aiding them in finding answers swiftly and testing their trivia skills.
A Vodafone spokesperson highlighted the essence of trivia quizzes in fostering camaraderie, knowledge testing, and friendly competition, underscoring the integration of AI into this pastime as a reflection of technological advancements.
The Google Pixel 10, featuring Gemini technology, is now available at Vodafone starting from £23.50 per month with a £30 upfront cost, offering savings of up to £756 on the Phone and Airtime plan.
