Jockey Jack Andrews, known for being the tallest jockey globally at a height of six feet four inches, received a 12-day suspension following an incident at Stratford-on-Avon where he veered off course and missed a fence during a race. Riding Xcitations in a 2m1f handicap chase, Andrews was in the lead when he bypassed the water jump at the fifth fence by mistake.
Although it was agreed beforehand that the sixth fence would be omitted for chase races, Andrews, aboard the 11-year-old horse trained by Pam Sly, got confused during the event. Upon realizing his error, he promptly halted his horse, leading to the suspension.
The stewards’ inquiry concluded that Andrews had taken the wrong course after the first fence in the home straight on the first circuit. He was shown recordings of the incident and subsequently suspended for 12 days for failing to maneuver the water jump and pulling up the horse.
The race was eventually won by Harel Du Marais, ridden by James Bowen, with a lead of three and a quarter lengths. Bowen, speaking to Racing TV, mentioned that his horse performed well and he managed to lead early, securing the victory.
