“Royal Reception: Nigerian President’s State Visit to UK”

The monarchy’s traditional grandeur was prominently showcased this week during the official visit of the President and First Lady of Nigeria to the UK.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu were greeted at Windsor by Prince William and Princess Kate for the inaugural state visit of 2026, before proceeding to Windsor Castle for a meeting with Charles and Camilla.

During the guard inspection with the King and Queen, Princess Kate shared a touching moment with Queen Camilla, displaying their mutual affection.

As they exchanged greetings at Windsor Castle, Kate and Camilla embraced and exchanged kind words, as interpreted by a lip reader.

According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, Kate initiated the conversation with a cheerful “Good morning, how are you?” and praised Camilla’s appearance, saying, “you look beautiful!”

Camilla looked elegant in a pink wool crepe dress by Fiona Clare paired with a pink beret-shaped hat by Philip Treacy, adorned with the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Cartier flower clip brooches, as onlookers gathered to witness the reception in Windsor.

Prior to the state banquet, a departure from tradition was observed by William and Kate. Instead of sharing a pre-banquet portrait on Instagram, they opted for a post-banquet video showcasing highlights of the evening.

The official portrait was eventually shared by William and Kate, delayed by 24 hours, eliciting excitement from royal admirers who praised their elegance and beauty in the comments.

Kate donned the Lover’s Knot Tiara and a striking emerald gown designed by British-Nigerian designer Andrew Gn, reflecting the colors of the Nigerian flag.

President Tinubu’s visit marked the first state visit in nearly a century by a Muslim leader during the holy month of Ramadan, a time of fasting and abstaining from food and drink between dawn and sunset for many Muslims.

Due to Ramadan, the customary lunch with the King at the castle was omitted, with the Nigerian president believed to have privately broken his fast before attending the banquet with the Royal Family in St George’s Hall.
