Royal Family Honors Legacy of Dame Shan Legge-Bourke

Prince William, alongside Princess Anne and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, attended a memorial service in Brecon, Wales, to honor Dame Shan Legge-Bourke, a close family friend. Dame Shan, who passed away at the age of 82 in December, was known for her significant contributions to public life in Wales. She had a special connection with William and his brother, Prince Harry, as her daughter Tiggy served as their childhood nanny.

The memorial, held at Brecon Cathedral, was also attended by other members of the royal family. William represented his father, the King, at the service, while Sophie stood in for her husband, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh. Prior to the ceremony, William and Anne interacted with students at Christ College Brecon, showcasing their friendly rapport with the younger generation.

Dame Shan’s legacy extended beyond her role as a lady-in-waiting for Princess Anne. She held various prestigious positions in Wales, including being the Lord Lieutenant of Powys and the President of several prominent organizations. Her family, deeply saddened by her loss, described her as an inspiration to many and emphasized her enduring impact on Glanusk and the wider community.

In addition to her public service, Dame Shan was also known for her down-to-earth persona, as depicted in a documentary where she engaged in everyday tasks on her estate with her grandchildren. Her daughter, Zara, praised her exceptional skills, highlighting her ability to operate a tractor with finesse.

Tragically, Tiggy’s stepson, Edward Pettifer, fell victim to a terror attack in New Orleans last year. William expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the Pettifer family and all those affected by the tragic event. The royal family’s presence at the memorial service underscored the deep connection they shared with Dame Shan and her family.
