A suspicious package has been discovered at a prominent RAF base in the UK. Bomb disposal teams have been sent to RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, with a restricted area established around the Muirton Road vicinity. Some local residents have been evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to reports from the Press and Journal.
RAF officials have stated that they are collaborating with civilian authorities to address the situation. The incident at Lossiemouth is unrelated to any planned exercise activities, as confirmed by an RAF spokesperson.
Personnel at the base have been participating in Exercise Agile Warrior this week. The exercise, known as Agile Warrior 26, is a significant homeland defense training initiative aimed at assessing the RAF’s readiness to safeguard the UK amid global security challenges.
A suspicious item was found during a routine security sweep at RAF Lossiemouth, leading to the closure of the main gate and implementation of alternative access measures. The RAF spokesperson stated that necessary precautions have been taken, including notifying the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and establishing a safety perimeter in coordination with civilian agencies.
