A prominent BBC Radio 1 personality, Dave Jamieson, aged 76, has passed away while in Spain. Jamieson, who kickstarted his broadcasting journey on hospital radio, has left a void in the radio community.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Boom Radio and Nerja Gold Radio, where Jamieson hosted segments. Boom Radio expressed, “He has been an integral part of our team for the past five years, starting on the Saturday breakfast show before transitioning to Sundays. His absence will be deeply felt.”
Nerja Gold Radio lamented, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague Dave Jamieson. After a prolific broadcasting career across the UK, Dave settled in Nerja, actively contributing to local radio stations, including Nerja Gold Radio and Boom Radio in the UK. His absence will also be felt by all attendees of his Tuesday quizzes at Potters Bar.”
Kevin Sykes from Mercia Sound expressed his sorrow, stating, “I regret to announce the passing of Dave Jamieson, who passed away in a hospital yesterday. I first met Dave in 1980, and our friendship has spanned over four decades. I will deeply miss him.”
Jamieson began his broadcasting career in his teens and was part of the pioneering days of BBC local radio, including the first regional segment in Leicester.
Throughout his career, Jamieson made appearances on various radio platforms, including Radio 1 Club, BBC Scotland, BRMB in Birmingham, Radio Clyde in Glasgow, and Mercia Sound in Coventry. Tributes poured in from colleagues and friends, reminiscing about Jamieson’s impactful presence in the industry.
Aside from his radio career, Dave Jamieson also worked as an announcer for ATV and the Central network in the Seventies, lending his voice to school programs.
Jamieson played a pivotal role in the establishment of Boom Radio five years ago, alongside fellow radio personalities, marking his commitment to the industry.
