“Putin Suspected of Backing Iran in Conflict”

Vladimir Putin is suspected of providing support to Iran in its conflict against the US and Israel, according to the UK defense secretary.

During a visit to the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters, UK Defense Secretary John Healey pointed out similarities between Iranian forces’ actions in Iraq and Russian military tactics in Ukraine. He highlighted the use of drones by Iran, including the sale of “Shahed” attack drones to Russia early in Moscow’s conflict with Ukraine.

The defense secretary suggested a connection between Russia and Iran, indicating that Putin may be influencing Iranian tactics and capabilities. He noted that high oil prices benefit Putin, which have surged due to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route.

Lieutenant General Nick Perry, chief of joint operations for UK military, confirmed the link between Russia and Iran. He mentioned that Iranian drone tactics appear to have evolved, resembling those learned from Russia, particularly in flying drones at lower altitudes for increased effectiveness.

Recent drone attacks in the Middle East, including one on a Royal Air Force base in Cyprus, have been attributed to Iranian-linked drones. The UK defense secretary described the attack as dangerous and indiscriminate, involving a Shahed drone that caused minimal damage.

Investigations are underway to determine if Russian components were used in the drone attack. The defense secretary assured that there were no reported British casualties, although there were reports of US injuries.
