The uproar gained momentum when TikTok user Jade (@Jaderebeeca) shared a video lamenting the apparent demise of the days when she could effortlessly snag a pair of 90p flip flops at Primark.
Jade’s video quickly went viral, with comments flooding in about the sudden price hike. Critics pointed out the stark jump from 90p to £2 for the flip flops, expressing shock and disbelief. Some even reminisced about the absence of affordable flip flops at special occasions like weddings due to the pricing shift.
Amid the outcry, observations have surfaced that the price surge occurred since 2025. Comparisons were drawn to the previous year when identical flip-flops in various colors were retailed at Primark for just £1, as evidenced in a TikTok post from a North Wales store.
While some consumers have criticized Primark for the increase, others have sought alternative sources for budget-friendly flip flops. Similar styles are reportedly available at Matalan for £2.50 and other brands like ASOS and Shein are also pricing similar items.
