In a wooded area near Niddrie Mains Road in the capital city, law enforcement officials discovered a firearm and ammunition, leading to the initiation of an investigation by organized crime detectives. The specialized officers found these items during a thorough search on Thursday, March 12.
The serious and organized crime unit of Police Scotland disclosed that they are uncertain if the weapon has been used in criminal activities. However, the firearm will undergo extensive forensic analysis to identify any potential connections. This discovery is part of the ongoing efforts to address serious and organized crime across Scotland’s central region.
According to the Daily Record, authorities believe that the recovered weapon was likely intended for deadly violence. Detective Chief Inspector George Calder emphasized the significance of this seizure, expressing confidence that the firearm could have been deployed in acts of violence resulting in severe harm or worse.
Inspector Calder further added that this discovery should reassure the community of law enforcement’s commitment to combating organized crime. The operation, led by intelligence, was observed near the Jack Kane Sports Centre, with specialized dog handlers patrolling nearby parks. The authorities are actively working to disrupt criminal networks, collaborating with partner agencies and the public to eradicate illegal activities in alignment with Scotland’s Serious Organized Crime Strategy Taskforce’s objectives.
