“Parents Neglect Daughter to Death, Sentenced 8 Years”

A tragic case unfolded as a couple, referred to as a “mother from hell” and “bad father,” neglected their vulnerable daughter, Steffie Davies, who was found deceased in a severely emaciated state in her bedroom. Steffie’s body, weighing only five stone, was discovered decomposing, with evidence suggesting she had been neglected for a significant period.

Bernita and Alan Davies, both 60, were sentenced to eight years in prison for their role in their daughter’s death after the court determined that they had failed to provide adequate care for her. The judge emphasized that Steffie had not received love or attention from her parents and pointed out the lack of information about her life over the past decade.

Described as the “mother from hell,” Bernita was known for her harsh treatment of her children, leading Steffie to become increasingly withdrawn. Despite indications of Steffie’s deteriorating health, her parents made no effort to seek medical help for her, even as she lay in extreme pain without leaving her bed for a year.

An autopsy revealed that Steffie’s death was caused by sepsis resulting from infected pressure ulcers, severe malnutrition, and a remarkably low body weight. The court was shown distressing images of Steffie’s living conditions, highlighting the neglect she endured.

Steffie’s sister expressed her devastation, questioning how their parents could stand by and watch her sister’s decline without taking action. The family’s statement described Steffie as a beloved daughter and granddaughter, emphasizing the loss they felt.

The court proceedings revealed the deep regret felt by Bernita and Alan Davies, who admitted their guilt and acknowledged their failure to care for their daughter. Despite their remorse, they were held accountable for the tragic outcome and sentenced accordingly.
