Adam Peaty faced a reality check upon his return to competitive swimming following his marriage to Holly Ramsay. The three-time Olympic champion finished fourth in the men’s 100m breaststroke at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet, falling short of his usual dominance in the event.
Even though Peaty led at the halfway mark, he struggled in the final stretch, posting a time of 1:00.74. Filip Nowacki claimed victory with a time of 1:00.26, followed by Gregory Butler in second (1:00.37) and Max Morgan in third (1:00.54). Peaty was notably distant from his world record of 56.88 set during the 2019 World Championships in South Korea.
Given his extended break from competitive swimming since the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Peaty’s performance was anticipated to show some rustiness. His absence was due to his wedding to Holly, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, in a grand ceremony at Bath Abbey in December.
Peaty and Holly are featured in the new Netflix documentary series ‘Being Gordon Ramsay’, which tracks the renowned chef as he prepares to launch multiple establishments in London. The show captures moments such as the couple’s engagement announcement to the Ramsay family and their engagement party, where Gordon praised Peaty as an exceptional individual.
The couple shared their engagement news on Instagram in September 2024, eliciting a joyous response from the Ramsay family. Peaty, who has a son from a previous relationship, expressed his happiness in joining the Ramsay family and recounted the heartfelt moment when he sought their blessing for the marriage.
Looking ahead, Peaty, a double Olympic breaststroke champion, is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the European Championships in Paris this summer. He recently completed a training camp on Australia’s Gold Coast in preparation for these upcoming competitions.
