O2 has officially announced that millions of its customers are receiving a rapid free upgrade. This upgrade is introducing faster 5G+ services to users throughout the UK, offering improved mobile coverage and significantly quicker download speeds. O2 guarantees a 50% performance enhancement compared to older 4G technology.
In addition to speed and reliability benefits, users can also expect longer battery life as devices consume less power by no longer needing to connect to both 4G and 5G networks simultaneously. Unlike traditional 5G, which relies on 4G support, the new 5G+ service is more efficient.
For those with compatible 5G+ devices and SIM cards, the upgrade is currently being rolled out, with activation in over 700 towns and cities.
Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, elaborated on the upgrade, stating, “Our 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers across the UK and uniquely available to all O2 customers on every plan, unlike other networks. This upgrade enhances performance in high-traffic areas, such as major venues, benefiting residents and visitors alike. It exemplifies Virgin Media O2’s dedication to improving our network and offering a more dependable experience. We are investing £2 million daily to assist our customers in adapting to the upcoming mobile innovations.”

5G+ is an advanced iteration of 5G networks that utilizes cutting-edge technologies like higher-frequency spectrum, enhanced antennas, and network optimization to deliver faster speeds, reduced latency, and increased capacity.
