“Nigel Farage Invests in Bitcoin Company Despite Misspelled Blunder”

Kwasi Kwarteng faced a significant mishap when he revealed Nigel Farage’s investment in a bitcoin company. Kwarteng, known for his short stint as chancellor during Liz Truss’s tumultuous premiership, disclosed that Reform UK leader Farage had made a substantial investment in his Bitcoin enterprise. This involved MP Farage investing £215,000 in Stack BTC as part of a funding round for equity.

During an announcement video to generate excitement for the project, a blunder was uncovered. As Kwarteng highlighted the company’s growing momentum, the phrase “institutional credability” appeared on the screen. Unfortunately, the word “credibility” was misspelled, leading to an embarrassing oversight.

Despite the error, Kwarteng’s spirits remained high as Farage acquired 4.3 million shares through his investment entity, Thorn In The Side Ltd, at a rate of 5p per share, resulting in a 6.3% ownership stake. The total raised from the funding amounted to £260,000, as confirmed by the company.

Based in London, Stack operates on the UK’s challenger stock exchange Aquis, focusing on building a portfolio of companies and channeling their surplus funds into Bitcoin to create a cryptocurrency treasury.

Executive chairman Mr. Kwarteng leads Stack, a position he assumed after a brief 38-day tenure as chancellor in 2022, marked by the controversial mini-budget he crafted alongside former Prime Minister Liz Truss. Notably, the pound plummeted to a 37-year low following Kwarteng’s announcement of extensive tax cuts funded by over £70 billion in increased borrowing.

Former Conservative MP for Spelthorne, Surrey, until 2024, Mr. Kwarteng, along with his wife Harriet, holds a 5.4% stake in Stack.

In response to the investment, Mr. Farage expressed his long-standing support for Bitcoin, emphasizing its future role in business and finance. He sees London and the UK as potential global hubs for the crypto industry due to their historical significance in the financial markets.

Mr. Kwarteng expressed his delight at having Nigel Farage and Blockchain as strategic investors in Stack, aligning with their shared vision of Bitcoin expanding its financial presence.

Reform UK’s commitment to reducing cryptocurrency taxes and establishing a Bitcoin reserve fund if elected was highlighted, as the Treasury introduced new legislation to regulate cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin similarly to other financial products under upcoming UK laws in 2027.

The move reflects ongoing efforts to revamp the market as it gains popularity as an alternative investment avenue and payment method. Despite its appeal, the UK’s financial watchdog has cautioned that cryptocurrency is a high-risk investment with potential for significant financial loss.
