Miley Cyrus has come together with her father, Billy Rae Cyrus, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her famous Disney show, Hannah Montana.
The father-daughter pair will appear side by side in the show’s upcoming special, featuring an exclusive interview with Miley and unreleased footage. A heartwarming moment was shared where they engaged in a quick hip bump handshake. Billy Ray posted a teaser on Instagram, captioning it, “20 years later and @mileycyrus still knows the old handshake trick.”
Their joint appearance follows speculations of a family feud after Billy Ray’s separation from Tish, Miley’s mother, in 2022. At the 2024 Grammys, Miley did not mention her father, who is now in a relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, during her acceptance speech. A year later, she acknowledged the challenges she and her father have faced.
Addressing rumors on Instagram, Miley expressed, “My mother and I share a strong bond that nothing can break. She’s not tech-savvy and accidentally unfollowed me, a simple and uneventful incident.” She further stated, “Family is my top priority in my thirties. Reconciliation has taken place, and time has brought healing. I am thankful for the love and good health within my family.”
The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, filmed in front of a live audience, will feature Miley being interviewed by Call Her Daddy podcaster Alex Cooper and showcasing never-before-seen series footage.
The show aired from 2006 to 2011, revolving around Miley Stewart, played by Miley, leading a double life as a high school student and the renowned pop star, Hannah Montana. Billy Ray portrayed a fictionalized version of himself, a country music artist who retired to raise his children and manage his daughter’s career.
Miley recently shared the valuable lessons she learned from her godmother, Dolly Parton. They performed a duet of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” to celebrate Dolly’s 80th birthday, an experience Miley described as amazing.
