Met Office Warns of Snow in UK Regions

Britons in different regions are being advised to dress warmly as the Met Office has pinpointed the areas expected to be hit by snow shortly.

After enduring heavy rain and strong winds, the UK now faces a drop in temperatures as a low-pressure system moves in from the northwest. National weather authorities have warned that a band of rain from the west will collide with Arctic air, leading to wintry weather before Monday morning.

The Met Office has issued a caution that while many areas will see “blustery showers,” those in the north and at higher elevations will face the harshest conditions.

Maps indicate that some areas may experience temperatures dropping to a chilling -2°C overnight. The most impacted regions are expected to be in the northern parts of the country, particularly on elevated terrain, as reported by the Express.

Met Office forecaster Annie Shuttleworth mentioned, “Showers will move in across northwestern areas throughout the day, potentially bringing snow above approximately 400m. Wet and windy weather will spread from the west, covering much of western UK, Wales, and the Midlands. Although there may be a touch of frost in the far east on Sunday morning, milder and cloudier weather will follow, reducing the frost risk.”

The sudden cold snap comes just a week after parts of England enjoyed spring-like conditions with temperatures reaching 19°C. Meteorologists attribute the recent weather shift to a cold plunge over North America intensifying the jet stream, pulling cold Arctic air over the Atlantic.

Based on the latest Met Office forecasts, the following areas are likely to experience snow, especially in elevated regions. The Met Office forecast for Saturday evening and tonight in the Scottish Highlands indicates showers clearing with frost developing in the east, followed by rain and hill snow overnight, accompanied by strengthening southerly winds.

Sunday’s forecast for the Scottish Highlands predicts cloudy conditions with heavy rain clearing early, leading to sunny spells and heavy showers, possibly thundery, with hill snow and strong southerly winds.

In the Yorkshire Dales, Sunday’s forecast suggests turning wet and windy, with rain clearing later in the day, giving way to heavy showers transitioning to snow on high ground, and a cold feel due to the wind.
