Media Icon John Stapleton Leaves £4.5M Estate to Son

A well-known figure from BBC and ITV, John Stapleton, passed away last year, leaving an inheritance of £4.5 million. His estate, valued at £5,536,228, was detailed in probate documents, with the final sum adjusted to £4,544,801 after accounting for expenses and debts. Stapleton had drawn up his will in 2017 before his wife’s passing in 2020.

Following his wife’s death, the substantial estate was designated to be inherited by his son, Nick. Stapleton, a prominent presenter and journalist recognized for his work on programs like BBC’s Watchdog, GMTV, and Good Morning Britain, succumbed to Parkinson’s disease and pneumonia in September the previous year.

Having spent nearly five decades in the media industry, covering events like the Kosovo war and multiple US elections, Stapleton disclosed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in October 2024, emphasizing his determination to confront the illness positively. He ultimately passed away in hospital, surrounded by his son and daughter-in-law, in the morning.

In 2024, Stapleton candidly discussed his struggles with Parkinson’s, acknowledging the challenges it posed to his speech, a skill crucial to his career. Despite the difficulties, he adopted a pragmatic and optimistic outlook, recognizing the permanent presence of the disease in his life and focusing on managing it with expert guidance.
