A man’s relentless pursuit to confirm the paternity of two children from his former partner escalated when he aggressively confronted her at her home and left a note for her spouse, exposing their affair.
Jamie Nielson, aged 41, admitted to charges of stalking, driving while disqualified, and driving without a license at Liverpool Crown Court. He received a prison sentence of more than a year, a driving ban, and a restraining order. The court learned that Nielson had a 12-year sporadic relationship with the victim, who had married her husband in 2013.
Despite being blocked during their “off” periods, Nielson bombarded the woman with 37 messages one night in December. He even followed her to work and later showed up at her house, banging on the door while the victim was home with her family.
The situation escalated further when Nielson returned to the property in the early hours of the morning, creating disturbance by beeping his horn. His stalking behavior continued with multiple confrontations, including one where he forced the woman to stop her car to avoid a collision.
Nielson, from Bootle, confessed to the stalking charges, driving offenses, and breaching a previous suspended sentence related to drug offenses. His defense lawyer highlighted his remorse and explained that his actions were driven by doubts about the paternity of the children from the affair.
The judge, Louise Brandon, emphasized the fear and distress caused by Nielson’s actions and sentenced him to 18 weeks for stalking, eight weeks for driving offenses, and activated 39 weeks of his suspended sentence, totaling 65 weeks in prison. Additionally, Nielson was banned from driving for over two years and received a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim for seven years.
