“Man’s 20-year headache leads to brain tumor and stroke”

A man who endured severe headaches for twenty years was initially treated with pain relief and advised to rest. However, his situation took a drastic turn when he suddenly lost his ability to speak and move his arms one day. Stuart Hill, who had been battling intense headaches for a prolonged period, was ultimately diagnosed with a brain tumor that was connected to his skull and membrane.

After undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, Stuart suffered a stroke that left him with speech difficulties. His wife, Bev, described the heart-wrenching experience of seeing her husband in such a vulnerable state. Stuart, who appeared healthy before his diagnosis, experienced the alarming episode while visiting family on April 15, 2025.

Following a series of medical assessments, it was determined that the tumor was slow-growing and isolated, necessitating its removal. Despite the risks involved, including the possibility of stroke or even death, Stuart proceeded with the surgery. The operation successfully removed the tumor, which was found to be attached to his skull and membrane rather than penetrating his brain.

Unfortunately, the surgery left Stuart with speech impairment due to a stroke affecting the language center of his brain. He also began experiencing seizures and faces a challenging road to recovery, including speech therapy and regular scans.

In an effort to raise awareness and support brain tumor research, the family is sharing Stuart’s story and organizing a fundraising event. Bev’s daughter, Megan, plans to participate in the Swansea Half Marathon to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, aiming to collect £3,000.

Bev emphasized the importance of funding research to improve outcomes for families facing similar challenges. Letty Greenfield, from Brain Tumour Research, expressed gratitude to the Hill family for their advocacy and highlighted the critical need for increased awareness and investment in brain tumor research to enhance survival rates and find a cure.
