“Manhunt for Murder Suspect Ceyhan Dinler Intensifies”

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe has made a fresh appeal for information to locate a murder suspect who is believed to have fled to Turkey after brutally killing his romantic rival. The suspect, Ceyhan Dinler, 38, is wanted in connection with the stabbing death of Cumali Turhan in Chelmsford, Essex. Turhan, 45, was fatally stabbed in the neck on November 19, 2024, after being tortured by Dinler, who had reportedly discovered Turhan’s secret relationship with his girlfriend.

During the vicious attack, parts of Turhan’s body, including his tongue and genitals, were mutilated and dumped in a bin. Police indicated that the injuries suggested the mutilation occurred while Turhan was still alive. Following a 47-day search, the victim’s body was discovered in a landfill in Colchester.

DCI Metcalfe, speaking on BBC One’s Crimewatch Live, urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the apprehension of Dinler. She emphasized the importance of securing justice for Turhan and his family, highlighting the severity of the crime and the ongoing efforts to locate the suspect. Additionally, a £10,000 reward is being offered by the independent charity Crimestoppers for information leading to Dinler’s arrest.

In a separate development, a man named Ciprian Ilie was sentenced to seven years in prison for his involvement in the disposal of Turhan’s body. Ilie assisted in placing the victim’s body in a bin, which was later taken to the landfill by refuse workers. The court revealed that the conflict between Dinler and Turhan stemmed from a romantic rivalry. Phil Breckton of Crimestoppers assured complete anonymity to anyone providing information on Dinler’s whereabouts.

The Turhan family, both in Turkey and the UK, is seeking closure and justice for Cumali’s tragic death. The case was featured in a Channel 4 documentary titled “Catching a Killer: Buried Truths,” which highlighted CCTV footage of the victim and the suspect in a bar shortly before the murder. The investigation revealed further details of the sequence of events leading to Turhan’s death, including his last moments at a bar in Chelmsford where he was fatally attacked. Prosecutors believe Turhan, a devoted Tottenham Hotspur fan and Turkish citizen, was stabbed to death by Dinler.
