Man Turns Blue from New Bedsheets, Lands in Hospital

A man experienced a surprising turn of events when he ended up in the hospital looking entirely blue after sleeping in new navy blue bedsheets. Tommy Lynch, 42, was taken aback when his skin color resembled that of “an Avatar” after using the unwashed sheets for two nights.

Feeling unusually fatigued, Tommy’s concerned friend, who works as a carer, wasted no time in rushing him to the hospital. Tommy was promptly examined by a doctor, given immediate care, and placed on oxygen by attentive hospital staff.

To everyone’s surprise, a simple alcohol wipe test revealed that the blue hue on Tommy’s skin was due to the unwashed bedsheets. Despite the embarrassing situation, Tommy found humor in the ordeal and left the hospital feeling more embarrassed than blue.

Hailing from Castle Gresley, Derbyshire, the construction worker expressed his astonishment at the incident, admitting his lack of knowledge about the necessity of washing new sheets before using them. Tommy shared his comical encounter at the hospital, where he was likened to an Avatar by medical staff.

Gifted the £40 beddings by his friend Del to stay warm in his barn home, Tommy overlooked the importance of washing the sheets to prevent the dye from staining his skin. Waking up completely blue on the second night, Tommy’s friend immediately recognized the severity of the situation and urged him to seek medical attention.

Tommy was admitted to Queen’s Hospital in Burton on November 15, where medical professionals swiftly attended to him, running tests and providing oxygen support. The moment a nurse’s swab turned blue during a routine procedure, Tommy realized the cause of his unusual skin coloration.

Despite the good-humored atmosphere, Tommy emphasized that he didn’t intend to waste the hospital staff’s time and reassured his worried mother about his well-being. Following a week of diligent efforts to remove the blue tint through multiple baths, Tommy finally returned to his normal color.

Reflecting on the incident, Tommy advised others to always wash new sheets before use to avoid unexpected trips to the emergency room.
