Renowned filmmaker Louis Theroux has garnered attention with his most recent documentary, Louis Theroux: Inside The Manosphere. Throughout his extensive career, the 55-year-old documentarian has delved into various controversial topics, including spending time with neo-Nazi leaders, the notorious “Most Hated Family in America,” and the late Jimmy Saville before his infamous crimes were exposed.
Despite his history of tackling contentious subjects, Theroux recently revealed that there was one topic he shied away from – the terrorist organization ISIS, also known as Daesh, IS, or ISIL. He admitted feeling that it was too perilous for himself and his film crew to venture into covering ISIS due to the extreme danger associated with the group.
Although ISIS’s prominence and threat have diminished since the mid-2010s, the organization remains active, albeit to a lesser extent, following recent attacks in Australia and Syria. Theroux expressed his apprehension about delving into the atrocities committed by ISIS, citing the extreme violence and irrationality displayed by the group.
In a conversation with LadBible, Theroux explained his decision, stating that the brutality and sheer danger posed by ISIS made it a subject he deemed too hazardous to approach. While reflecting on his experiences, including being filmed by subjects during his latest documentary on the manosphere, Theroux acknowledged the evolving nature of narratives and the challenges of filming in risky environments.
During an interview with comedian Romesh Ranganathan, Theroux disclosed his inner thoughts on navigating dangerous situations and how his family’s surprisingly relaxed attitude towards his work affects him. He admitted to grappling with the balance between his professional persona and his roles as a husband and father, highlighting the complexities of his personal and professional life.
Throughout his career, Theroux has continuously pushed boundaries in the realm of documentary filmmaking, capturing the essence of various societal issues while navigating the intricacies of human behavior and organized chaos.
