Liza Minnelli Reveals Sinatra’s Demanding Tour Demands

Liza Minnelli has shared her experience of collaborating with the renowned singer Frank Sinatra, describing him as “cranky and moody” and someone who insisted on controlling the schedule.

In her latest book, Liza revealed how Sinatra would keep her and Sammy Davis Jr up late drinking with him, even going as far as locking them in his dressing room if they attempted to retire early. She recounted their history, mentioning Sinatra’s initial visit to her as a baby in the hospital and his close relationship with her mother, Judy Garland.

Despite Sinatra’s generous gestures, Liza detailed the challenges of touring with him in 1988. She recalled how Sinatra, known as ‘Uncle Frank,’ demanded everything be done on his terms, making life on the road difficult.

During the Ratpack Reunion tour with Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr, Liza stepped in for Dean Martin, who left due to the pressures of touring with Sinatra. She described Sinatra as a demanding figure, insisting that everything revolved around his schedule and mood.

Although Sinatra’s behavior could be trying, Liza acknowledged his support and generosity while also highlighting the toll the tour took on her due to personal struggles with alcohol.

Reflecting on her time with Sinatra, Liza emphasized his domineering nature and noted his reluctance to apologize for anything, illustrating that it was always “Frank’s way or no way.”

Liza’s new book, “Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!,” offers a candid look into her life, including her career, marriages, and personal challenges. She shares insights into her ill-fated marriage to David Gest, which she knew was doomed from the start.

Among her acknowledgments, Liza expressed gratitude to her doctor for helping her through her struggles, emphasizing the importance of quality healthcare. Ending on a theatrical note, she invited readers to join her at the Cabaret, signing off with warmth and affection.

The book, published by Hodder & Stoughton, provides a colorful account of Liza’s experiences and is a testament to her resilience and candor.
