“Kanlaon Volcano Erupts: Ash Cloud Soars High”

Recent images captured a significant ash cloud soaring into the atmosphere after a significant volcanic outburst today.

Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island in the Philippines underwent an eruption at approximately 6pm local time. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology characterized the event as a “moderately explosive eruption”.

This marks the third eruption recorded on the mountain this year. A regional Alert Level 2 has been declared, with a 4km safety perimeter established.

An ash plume is visibly emanating from the volcano, and residents have reported the presence of a sulfuric odor in the air.

The ash column, reaching three miles in height, has been carried by winds towards the southeast and northeast directions.

Earlier today, the Kanlaon Volcano in the Philippines erupted for the third time this year.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology stated: “Another moderately explosive eruption took place at the summit of Kanlaon Volcano at 06:07 PM today, producing a 5-kilometer-high eruption column that is dispersing towards the southeast and northeast. This marks the third volcanic event at Kanlaon this year, following similar eruptions on February 19 and 26, 2026. Alert Level 2 remains in effect for Kanlaon Volcano, and access to the 4-kilometer PDZ (Permanent Danger Zone) must be restricted.”
