Jessica Reynolds returns to Channel 4’s “A Woman of Substance,” sparking increased curiosity among fans about the actress. The series, based on Barbara Taylor Bradford’s novel, follows the journey of Emma Harte from poverty to wealth.
While Brenda Blethyn portrays an older Emma in the show, Jessica Reynolds breathes life into the younger version of the character. Born in Belfast in 1998, Reynolds comes from a family with a strong sports background but found her passion for acting after watching a film that deeply impacted her.
After studying at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Reynolds made her debut in theater. Despite being a newcomer in the industry, she has appeared in popular shows like “Derry Girls” and “Outlander.”
In her role as Lady Christine O’Madden in “House of Guinness,” Reynolds showcased her talent by portraying a character dealing with poverty and mental health challenges. Despite being from Northern Ireland, she successfully captured the Yorkshire accent for her role in “A Woman of Substance.”
Reynolds expressed the pressure she felt in portraying such an iconic character like Emma, who is depicted as a resilient and determined individual. Despite personal differences, Reynolds acknowledged the strength and perseverance of her character.
Although not sharing scenes together, Reynolds shares the lead role of Emma Harte with Brenda Blethyn in the series. The two actresses had an adorable first meeting on set, creating a memorable moment.
Currently, Reynolds is shooting a four-part series for Channel 4 titled “Close to Home,” based on Michael Magee’s novel. Set in Ireland and Liverpool, the story follows a character named Sean and his journey of self-discovery, with Reynolds playing a pivotal role.
Fans can catch “A Woman of Substance” on Channel 4 on Wednesday nights.
